EU Commission says window for doing EU-Swiss treaty closing mid-October

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Commission said on Friday that the window of opportunity for sealing a treaty with Swiss governing bilateral relations would be closing in mid-October.

A Commission spokeswoman said that it was looking forward to another negotiating round next week, adding it was vital to make progress on state aid provisions and Swiss measures to protect Swiss wages and working conditions.

“Our guiding principle in these negotiations remains: those who want to do business in the EU’s internal market need to comply with the rules,” the spokeswoman said in an emailed statement.
