Taiwan ruling party accepts defeat in southern city mayoral race

TAIPEI (Reuters) - Taiwan’s ruling pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party on Saturday admitted defeat in the mayoral election in the key southern city of Kaohsiung.

Chen Chi-mai offered his congratulations to Han Kuo-yu from the China-friendly opposition Kuomintang for winning the election, in comments carried live on Taiwanese television channels.
