(Reuters) - A look at the form and records of Canadian Denis Shapovalov and Britain’s Kyle Edmund ahead of their third-round match at the U.S. Open on Friday.
The 18-year-old Canadian showed remarkable speed, skill and a booming serve in his straight-sets upset win over France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the second round. The talented world number 69 reached the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup in Montreal this year scoring back-to-back wins over Spain’s Rafa Nadal and Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro along the way.
The last Briton standing in the U.S. Open, Edmund battled past American Steve Johnson to advance to the third round. Edmund lost the pair’s previous meeting this year in the first round at Queen’s Club.
