Turkey's opposition candidate in Istanbul says to win local election after recount

ANKARA (Reuters) - Turkey’s main opposition candidate in Istanbul said on Thursday he would win mayoral elections by a margin of up to 20,000 votes after recounts are completed in the 18 districts of the city, adding that recount of votes had been completed in 11 districts.

On Wednesday, Turkey’s High Election Board ruled to allow recounts of votes in 18 of Istanbul’s 39 districts after President Tayyip Erdogan’s AK Party objected to initial results that saw the opposition earn a narrow win in Sunday’s elections.
