Greece says extension of its territorial waters within its rights

ATHENS (Reuters) - Greece on Tuesday said an extension of its territorial waters was an inalienable sovereign right, rebuffing warnings from Turkey which opposes such a move.

“The extension of the coastal zone is a legal and inalienable sovereign right of Greece, in accordance with international law,” a foreign ministry spokesman said in a written statement.

“The relevant decision for an extension is exclusively up to Greece, which has the right to extend its territorial waters whenever, and as it sees fit.”
