BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Talks between the European Union and the United States on a permanent exemption for EU steel and aluminium companies from U.S. trade tariffs have not reached a conclusion yet but the situation is improving, the EU Commission said on Tuesday.

“We have very good discussions. The situation is calmer now than what it was two weeks ago,” the EU commission’s vice-president Jyrki Katainen told a news conference in Brussels, adding that talks were still underway.
