Trump says he will likely nominate Esper for defence secretary

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters on Tuesday he would likely nominate Mark Esper to be the secretary of defence, hours after he named him to replace Patrick Shanahan as acting secretary.

Shanahan announced he would step down and withdraw from consideration to be defence secretary, which requires Senate confirmation.
