Argentina, French farmers threaten EU-Mercosur deal: Brazil official

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Argentine post-election politics and pressure from French farmers pose risks to the implementation of a trade pact between the European Union and the Mercosur South American bloc, a Brazilian government official said on Monday.

Orlando Ribeiro, trade and foreign relations secretary at the agriculture ministry, said ideally all of the countries would sign the agreement by March or April next year. Then, he said, the legislative bodies of each country would have to approve it, meaning the process could take about three years.
