WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said on Tuesday that talks with South Korea to modify a free trade agreement were an opportunity to reduce non-tariff barriers and shrink a growing U.S. trade deficit with its Korean ally.

In a video statement issued at the start of a one-day meeting in Seoul on Tuesday, Lighthizer said U.S. President Donald Trump was committed to making “substantial improvements” in the five-year-old pact known as KORUS.
