Thai army suspends constitution, army chief heads junta

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand’s army chief, Prayuth Chan-ocha, will head the military council that is now in charge of the country, a deputy spokesman said on Thursday, after the army staged a coup to remove the government.

Winthai Suvaree, in a televised statement, said the constitution was being suspended but the Senate upper house and all courts would continue to function.
