BRASILIA, July 31 (Reuters) - Brazil has officially begun negotiating a trade agreement with the United States, the South American country’s economy minister said on Wednesday, adding that the negotiations were compatible with a trade deal recently struck with the European Union.

Speaking in Brasilia after meeting with U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, Brazilian Economy Minister Paulo Guedes said the United States wants closer ties with Brazil, including the chance to sell Latin America’s largest economy more ethanol.
