NEW YORK, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Washington Post Co WPO.N said on Friday its quarterly profit fell, hurt by continued weakness in newspaper advertising sales and circulation.
The newspaper publisher said second-quarter net profit fell to $68.8 million, or $7.19 per share, from $78.7 million, or $8.17 per share, a year ago.
Revenue rose to $1.05 billion from $969 million, helped by its education publishing and cable television divisions. Revenue fell at its newspapers, magazines and television broadcasting units.
Analysts on average were looking for earnings excluding special items of $8.42 per share on revenue of $1.03 billion, according to Reuters Estimates. (Reporting by Tiffany Wu)
