Thursday, 13 Jun 2019

June 13 (Reuters) - Australian Competition and Consumer Commission::RELEASED A STATEMENT OF ISSUES RAISING PRELIMINARY COMPETITION CONCERNS ABOUT NUTRIEN'S PROPOSED ACQUISITION OF RURALCO.IDENTIFIED LOCAL AREAS WHERE LANDMARK’S RURAL MERCHANDISE STORES COMPETE WITH RURALCO STORES AND THERE WOULD BE FEW REMAINING COMPETITORS.CONSIDERING WHETHER DELIVERY FROM OUTSIDE THESE REGIONS WOULD PROVIDE SUFFICIENT COMPETITION TO THE RURALCO-LANDMARK RETAIL STORES.PRELIMINARY VIEW IS THAT PROPOSED DEAL IS UNLIKELY TO LESSEN COMPETITION IN SUPPLY OF WOOL BROKING, LIVESTOCK AGENCY, & OTHER AREAS.CHECKING WHETHER MERGED LANDMARK-RURALCO WOULD BE MORE LIKELY TO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST RETAILERS WH0 ARE WHOLESALE CUSTOMERS COMPETING WITH STORES.CONSIDERING WHETHER PROPOSED DEAL WOULD REDUCE COMPETITION AT WHOLESALE LEVEL, WHETHER REMAINING WHOLESALERS WILL PROVIDE SUFFICIENT COMPETITION.
