Biographies

Name Description

Ahmed Heikal

Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hasanein Heikal is Executive Chairman of the Board and Founder of Qalaa Holdings S.A.E, representing Citadel Capital Partners Ltd. He served as an Executive Board Member and Managing Director of EFG Hermes Holding. He served as Head of Asset Management from 1994 until 1995, Head of securities from 1997 until 1999, Head of Investment Banking from 1996 until 1997 and Head of Private Equity from 1999 until 2001. He raised three rounds of finance for regional mobile telecommunications operator Orascom Telecom and led the IPOs of Orascom Construction Industries and Orascom Hotels, among other transactions. Dr. Heikal holds a Masters degree in Industrial Engineering and a Ph.D. degree in Engineering Management from Stanford University and Master of Science and Bachelor of Science from Cairo University.

Ahmed Abd El Sattar

Mr. Ahmed Abd El Sattar serves as Group Chief Information Officer at Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. since 2014. Prior to joining the Company in 2014, he held numerous leadership positions at Raya Group’s Information Technology and Consulting Services, culminating in his appointment as CEO of Raya International Services business unit in 2009. His long career with Raya began in 1993 and included serving as Chief Operations Officer at Raya IT, Director of Professional Services, General Manager of Strategic Projects, General Manager of Oratech, and as General Manager of International Operations. Mr. Abd El Sattar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications from the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Maastricht School of Management.

Ghada Hammouda

Ms. Ghada Hammouda is Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Marketing Communications of Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. Prior to joining the Company in 2008, she served as a senior executive and consultant to New York and Cairo firms including Reciprocal Inc., Nabli Business Consulting Group (NBCG), Ogilvy & Mather, N.W. Ayer & Partners, Backer, Spielvogel, Bates and AT&T International in categories ranging from FMCG to IT. Ms. Hammouda was also a Board Member for the New York-based Sunhawk.com Corporation. Ms. Hammouda has over 30 years diverse experience in strategic business planning and problem solving, project management and marketing consultancy, with particular emphasis on globalizing brands. She has also served as co-chair of the African Venture Capital Association’s Advocacy Committee and the Women-in-business Committee of The American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of Cairo American College and an SME Mentor with Endeavor. Ms. Hammouda graduated summa cum laude from the American University in Cairo with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Mass Communications and holds a Law degree from Cairo University.

Amro El Kadi

Mr. Amro Mohammed El Kadi is Head of Investor Relations and Risk Management of Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. He spent more than 20 years in Commercial Banking, Investment Banking and Investor Relations before joining the Company as Head of Investor Relations and Risk Management. Previously, Mr. El Kadi helped establish and lead EFG Hermes’ Research practice, and later he headed the regional investment bank’s Risk Management operations. Before his work at EFG Hermes, he worked with credit groups at international banks across Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United States. He was Member of the Board of Al-Watany Bank of Egypt. He is a founding member of the Egyptian Capital Markets Association and sits on the Egyptian Exchange’s EGX 30 Committee. He has previously served on the Boards of a number of spinning, weaving, ready-made garments and media production companies, and lectures on financial analysis and credit related topics at several of Cairo’s universities and institutions. He earned a Bachelor of Arts with High Honors and a Master of Arts from the American University in Cairo (AUC), both in Economics.

Mohsen Mansour

Mr. Mohsen Mansour serves as Principal at Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. He joined the Company in 2009 after a 14-year career with EFG Hermes. At EFG Hermes, he worked across a number of sales roles in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. He was most recently head of the Gulf sales function for all EFG Hermes product lines from the investment bank’s Riyadh office. Mr. Mansour holds a B. Sc in Mechanical Engineering from Cairo University.

Yasmin Al Gharbawie

Ms. Yasmin Al Gharbawie serves as General Counsel at Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. Prior to joining the Company, she was the legal director for Microsoft Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman. She previously held the post of legal director for Heineken Egypt (Al Ahram Beverages Company, S.A.E.) and was a senior associate at Shalakany Law Office. She holds LL.M degree in securities & international trade law from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada and LLB degree in French commercial law from the University of Paris—Sorbonne, France.

Hisham Al Khazendar

Mr. Hisham Hussein Al Khazendar is Managing Director, Co-Founder and Executive Member of the Board of Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. He is representing Citadel Capital Partners Ltd. Prior to co-founding the Company, he was Executive Director of Investment Banking at EFG Hermes, and where he started his career in 1996. Between 1999 and 2000, he was on secondment to Goldman Sachs in London, advising firms on strategic options and M&A transactions. Mr. Al Khazendar sits on the boards of companies including Magrabi Retail, and El Sewedy Cables. He was Chairman of the Capital Markets and Investment Committee at the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, was a member of US-Egyptian Business Council. He is a member of the Advisory Committee of EMPEA, is a founding member of EPEA, a board member of the Egyptian Capital Markets Association, and a member of the board of advisors of AUC’s School of Business. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the American University in Cairo, 1996, and a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard Business School, 2003.

Karim Sadeq

Mr. Karim Hasan Sadeq is Managing Director for Supply and Logistic Support, Executive Member of the Board at Qalaa Holdings S.A.E., representing Citadel Capital Partners Ltd since June 02, 2013. Prior to joining the Company, he was Managing Director of the Arab Investment Company (ABIC). He holds a Masters Degree in International Securities, Investment and Banking from the Business School for Financial Markets at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. He has experience in corporate banking and credit risk assessment through his work at both the Commercial International Bank (CIB) and Arab Bank.

Mohammed Abdullah

Mr. Mohammed Abdullah serves as Managing Director of Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. Before joining the Company in 2005, he served at EFG-Hermes’ Brokerage arm. Earlier, at the Commercial International Bank (CIB)’s Credit Department, he handled the textiles and paper sector. Mr. Abdullah holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Cairo University’s Faculty of Commerce.

Tariq Atteya

Mr. Tariq Salah Alddin Atteya serves as Managing Director - Cement Division at Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. since 2016. He was Managing Director for Greenfield Projects at the Company since June 02, 2013. Prior to that, he served as Member of the Board, representing Citadel Capital Partners LTD for Citadel Capital SAE since March 2013 till June 2, 2013. He joined the Company in 2007. Mr. Atteya worked with Arab Consulting Engineers in the Project Management Department. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Cairo University and a Master of Business Administration from the Arab Academy for Technology and Maritime Transport in Cairo.

Karim Badr

Mr. Karim Badr is Managing Director at Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. Prior to joining the Company, he was Associate Director of Investment Banking at Barclays Bank, Egypt. He advised, arranged and executed Egypt’s first securitization transaction and over EGP 4 billion (US$ 727 million) in financing and acquisition transactions for a number of companies including Qalaa Holdings’s acquisitions of the Egyptian Fertilizers Company and a majority in stake in ASEC group. Mr. Badr also held a range of investment banking positions at Sigma Capital. He holds a B. Sc in Construction Engineering from the American University in Cairo.

Abdullah El Ebiary

Mr. Abdullah El Ebiary serves as Managing Director for Qalaa Holdings S.A.E since 2012. He served as Managing Director at the Company till 2010. Before joining the Company in February 2006, he was a banker with the Investment Banking Division at Merrill Lynch & Co, where he participated in merger and acquisition transactions in addition to public and private financing, including the comprehensive financing of telecom and media companies such as Clear wire and Valor Communications Group. Previously, he served as Business Analysis Manager in the Corporate Finance Department of the MeadWestvaco Corporation. Mr. El Ebiary also spent five years with Procter & Gamble’s Finance Group; his last post was Finance Group Manager - Internal Control for Egypt, Lebanon and East Africa. He sits on the boards of Qalaa Holdings platform companies including ASEC Cement, Misr Qena Cement and ASEC Minya, as well as the Board of the Egyptian Private Equity Association. He holds Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from American University in Cairo and Masters of Business Administration degree from Columbia University in New York.

Ahmed El Sharkawy

Mr. Ahmed El Sharkawy serves as Managing Director for Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. Before joining the Company in 2008, he served as a Principal at Booz Allen Hamilton based in Abu Dhabi, where he advised regional private and public corporations in the telecommunications and media sectors. Previously, he was a Brand Manager at Henkel, Egypt. Mr. El Sharkawy holds B. Sc in Mechanical Engineering from the American University in Cairo, M. Sc in Engineering Management from the University of Michigan and MBA from INSEAD.

Alaa El-Afifi

Mr. Alaa El-Afifi is Managing Director - Mining Division at Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. Before joining Citadel Capital SAE in 2006, he was part of the UK Mergers and Acquisitions and the Industrials and Natural Resources teams at Goldman Sachs & Co in London. There, he worked on a number of investment banking deals and advised clients including Mittal Steel, Petroplus, Saint-Gobain, BP, Shell, BG, InterGen, MOL, SAS, ICI and Odeon Cinemas on mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt market strategies and raid-defense activities. He started his career as an Investment Banker at EFG Hermes. Mr. Al Afifi is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Business Administration from the American University in Cairo and a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in Finance, Strategic and Entrepreneurial Management.

Yaser Gamali

Mr. Yaser M. Gamali is Managing Director, Head of Governance at Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. Prior to joining the Company in 2014, he served as the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of AlexBank, where he was a member of the Board of Directors with responsibility for overseeing all business activities spanning Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Retail, Corporate Banking and Treasury activities. Mr. Gamali began his career in the advisory division of Ernst & Young in Australia and held numerous senior finance and commercial roles in Australia, Europe and across the Middle East covering Corporate and Investment Banking, Asset Management, Islamic Banking and Private Equity. Other recent roles included heading HSBC’s Investment Banking in Saudi Arabia and the Investment Banking, Brokerage, Treasury and Commercial Banking divisions in Egypt. In addition, he served as a non-executive Member of the Board at private and listed companies across the Middle East, including HSBC Investment Bank in Dubai, El Sewedy Electric in Egypt, Majid Al Futtaim Group companies in Dubai and Egypt, Orix Finance in Egypt, Dubai and Oman and was a founding member of the Egyptian charitable organization Misr El Kheir. Mr. Gamali holds a Business Degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Finance from University of Melbourne.

Mostafa Sowelem

Mr. Mostafa Sowelem serves as Managing Director at Qalaa Holdings S.A.E since 2012. He was Vice President of Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. till 2009. He joined the Company in 2006, after serving as Strategic Planning Projects Manager with CEMEX Egypt. His experience spans various fields including strategic analysis, results based management, assessment, feasibility and acquisition in the cement and downstream oil and gas industries. Mr. Sowelem holds Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the American University in Cairo.

Raouf Tawfik

Mr. Raouf Tawfik serves as Managing Director at Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. since 2012. He was Vice President at the Company till 2009. Prior to joining the Company in 2005, he served as finance specialist with Environment Quality International, where he worked in numerous areas, including micro lending and private equity. He has also served as equity analyst with EFG-Hermes’ Brokerage arm. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering from the American University in Cairo and M. Sc in Finance from Imperial College Management School in London.

Motaz Ayyad

Mr. Motaz Farouq Mohammed Ayyad serves as Executive Member of the Board at Qalaa Holdings S.A.E., representing Citadel Capital Partners Ltd since June 2, 2013. He served as Finance Manager of Fayrouz International A.G., a wholly owned subsidiary of Heineken International. Mr. Ayyad joined Fayrouz from Procter & Gamble, where he served as Senior Costing Manager, and began his career at EFG Hermes Securities Brokerage.

Rami Barsoum

Mr. Rami Barsoum is Head of Information Technology of Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. He joined the Company in 2007. He began his career at MEMScAP Ltd as a systems engineer. Mr. Barsoum worked with Al-Ahram Beverages in a number of technical and business functions and with Schlumberger Logelco as a systems engineer, project manager and digital infrastructure sales engineer. He holds a degree in Engineering with concentration in Computer Science with honors from Ain Shams University.

Hazem Dakroury

Mr. Hazem Dakroury is Head of Government Relations of Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. Prior to joining the Company at the end of 2007, he was a senior official in Egyptian government service. He joined government service in 1983 and was seconded to the United Arab Emirates in 1988 for a six-year stint in Abu Dhabi, where he worked in the risk analysis and foreign affairs portfolios. Mr. Dakroury is also an advisor and shareholder representative to several companies. He holds a law degree from Ain Shams University, a Diploma in International Negotiation from the University of London and a Diploma in Risk Analysis from the University of New Mexico.

Tamer Mukhtar Darwesh

Mr. Tamer Mukhtar Darwesh serves as Investor Relations Officer at Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. since August 14, 2014. Prior to joining the Company he was most recently Head of Investor Relations at SODIC, the EGX-listed property developer, where he had previously served in the corporate finance division, where he worked on the arrangement of SODIC’s first medium-term debt facility from Bank of Alexandria, among other transactions. As head of IR at SODIC, he played a lead role in a transaction that saw a New York-based investment group acquire a substantial stake in the company, becoming a major shareholder in the process. Mr. Darwesh holds a B. Sc in Mechanical Engineering with a double specialization in Design and Industrial from the American University in Cairo.

Salam Hammad

Ms. Salam Hammad is Head of Administration for Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. Prior to joining the Company in 2006, she managed human resources, administrative and financial efforts for companies and NGOs operating in a number of industries. A founder and manager of two advertising agencies, she was later elected a Member of the Board of Directors and Secretary-General at the British International Schools (BISC). Ms. Hammad’s service with the NGO sector includes a term as Deputy Executive Director at the British Egyptian Business Association (BEBA) and later as Executive Director of the Egyptian Society of Association Executives (EgSAE). She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Cairo University and Diplomas in International Finance, Psychology and Marketing.

Tarek Hassan

Mr. Tarek Hassan is Head of Legal Department at Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. He spent over 20 years in corporate law before joining the Company as head of its legal department. He began his career at the Law Office of Dr. Saeed El Halafawy, where he gained experience establishing joint-stock companies in several national jurisdictions and acted as a lead advisor on merger and acquisition transactions throughout the Middle East and Africa. After establishing and building a private practice from 1994 until 1999, Mr. Hassan moved to the Funoun Group to head its Legal Department. Mr. Hassan holds a Law degree from Cairo University.

Stephen Murphy

Mr. Stephen A. Murphy is Special Advisor at Qalaa Holdings S.A.E. since 2016. He was Managing Director of Citadel Capital Institutional Fundraising at the Company till 2016. He joined Citadel Capital SAE in 2008. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Murphy was head of private placements at Citigroup Global Markets. With more than 20 years of experience in private equity fundraising and investment banking, Mr. Murphy held a range of positions with Salomon Brothers / Salomon Smith Barney in New York, Tokyo and London starting in 1985. Originally, a mergers and acquisitions specialist who headed Salomon’s European M&A practice in the early 1990, Mr. Murphy’s career has covered a wide range of advisory as well as public and private fundraising activities. Before re-joining Citigroup in 2001, he held the post of Managing Director of E Trade International Capital, where he was, among other things, responsible for setting up the company’s online distribution of equity offerings via its web portal.

Shady Raphael

Mr. Shady Raphael is Head of Internal Audi of Qalaa Holdings S.A.E since 2014. He brings 20 years of broad industry experience to the firm in the areas of assurance, risk, and anti-fraud. Mr. Raphael worked in the internal audit, external audit and finance functions in the pharmaceutical, audit and, most recently, telecommunications industries. He holds a BA in Accounting from Helwan University in 1994. He also passed the US CPA exam in 2001.

Maryan Ghali

Joseph Iskander

Mr. Joseph Iskander is a Non-Executive Member of the Board of Qalaa Holdings S.A.E, representing DH Investors Ltd since June 30, 2016. He was Non-Executive Member of the Board at the Company representing Citadel Capital Partners Ltd since June 2, 2015 till June 30, 2016. He is Managing Director of Asset Management at Dubai Group and the former Head of Research at Dubai Capital Group until 2009. He joined Dubai Group as an Investment Manager in 2004 and worked on a range of M&A transactions, advisory services, asset management and private equity transactions. Prior to joining Dubai Group, Mr. Iskander headed the research team at Egypt's Prime Investments and was earlier an investment advisor at Commercial International Bank (CIB). He began his career at Deloitte & Touche (Egypt) as an auditor. He has over seventeen years of experience in the financial services industry, covering various areas such as banking, audit, research, private equity and asset management. Mr. Iskander represents Dubai Group on the board of Oasis Capital Bank in Bahrain, Marfin Investment Group in Greece and Emirates Retakaful in Dubai. He holds a degree in Accounting and Finance from Helwan University.

Philip Dundas

Mr. Philip Blair Dundas is a Non-Executive Independent Member of the Board of Qalaa Holdings S.A.E since June 30, 2016. He was Member of the Board at the Company since July 3, 2014 till June 30, 2016. Since 1981, he was the Managing Partner of the Abu Dhabi office of Shearman & Sterling LLP, a position he has held until 2013, having joined the firm in 1973 in New York. He has previously served as a director of Hyundai Oilbank and STX Metals of Korea as well as Xojet and Fuji Marine. Mr. Dundas has received from industry publications wide recognition of his longstanding contributions to business and finance in the Middle East, particularly as it relates to energy and M&A. He earned his BA from Wesleyan University in 1970 and his JD from Washington & Lee University in 1973.

Magdy El-Desouky

Mr. Magdy Kamal Ibrahim El-Desouky is a Non-Executive Independent Member of the Board of Qalaa Holdings S.A.E since June 30, 2016. He was Member of the Board at the Company since July 3, 2014 till June 30, 2016. He was Non-Executive Member of the Board at the Company, representing Citadel Capital Partners Ltd since 2012 till July 3, 2014. He was with Egypt’s Youssef Allam Group since 1994, where he is presently Vice-President for Investments. With more than 35 years of experience at both global and regional investment and financial management firms, Mr. El-Dessouky was previously assistant financial auditor of Le Meridian Jeddah Hotel, the financial auditor of Ramada Jeddah Hotel, General Director of Ramada Jeddah Hotel, and the administrative director and finance manager at Naghi Motors Company in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He sits on the boards of companies including EGYCAP Investment, MENA for Real Estate Investment, National Company for Development and Trade, Golden Crescent, Bonyan, Gozour and United Company for Foundries. Mr. El-Desouky holds a BA in Commerce from Cairo University.
