Bright Horizons Family Solutions Inc., incorporated on May 9, 2008, is a provider of child care, early education and other services. The Company provides services under multi-year contracts with employers offering child care and other dependent care solutions as part of their employee benefits packages. The Company's segments include full service center-based care services, back-up dependent care services and other educational advisory services. Full service center-based care includes center-based child care, preschool and elementary education. Back-up dependent care includes center-based back-up child care, in-home well child care, in home mildly ill child care and adult/elder care. Its other business services are included in the other educational advisory services segment, which includes its college preparation and admissions advisory services, as well as tuition reimbursement administration and educational advising services. As of December 31, 2015, the Company operated a total over 930 child care and early education centers across a range of customer industries with the capacity to serve approximately 107,000 children in the United States, as well as in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ireland, Canada and India. The Company operates over 300 nurseries in the United Kingdom and approximately 1,000 across the world.

Full-Service Child Care

The Company's full-service child care segment provides its center-based child care services under two general business models: a profit and loss (P&L) model, where it assumes the financial risk of operating a child care center, and a cost-plus model, where the Company is paid a fee by an employer client for managing a child care center on a cost-plus basis. The Company's P&L model is classified into approximately two subcategories: a sponsor model, where the Company provides child care and early education services on either an exclusive or priority enrollment basis for the employees of a specific employer sponsor, and a lease/consortium model, where it provides child care and early education services to the employees of multiple employers located within a specific real estate development (an office building or office park), as well as to families in the surrounding community.

Back-Up Dependent Care

The Company's back-up dependent care segment provides back-up dependent care services through its full-service centers or back-up centers, as well as through the Company's Back-Up Care Advantage (BUCA) program. BUCA offers access to a contracted network of in-home care agencies and approximately 3,000 center-based providers in locations. The Company operates its own contact center in Broomfield, Colorado.

Educational Advisory Services

The Company's educational advisory services segment consist of its College Coach services and EdAssist services. Edassist provides tuition reimbursement administration for corporate clients. Administration services are provided through a software system for processing and data analytics. The Company also provides educational advising to client employees on a one-on-one basis through its team of advisors. Customer service is also provided through contact centers in Broomfield, Colorado and Durham in North Carolina. College Coach provides college advisory services through its team of educators. As of December 31, 2015, the Company had 10 College Coach offices in the United States, located in metropolitan areas.

The Company competes with KinderCare Education, New Horizons Academy, Childbase, Busy Bees, Learning Care Group, Goddard Schools, Primrose Preschools, The Co-operative Childcare, Smallsteps and Partou.
