Baldan, Alberto

Mr. Alberto Baldan serves as Non-Executive Independent Director of FIERA MILANO S.P.A. since May 2, 2017. After his graduation, which included a thesis on organisational and management aspects of office automation and following his military service in the sailing group of the Navy, he followed the suggestion of the supervisor of his thesis, Prof. Bruno Bernardi to take part in the selection process for the position of Controller at Silos Ipermercati and thereby commenced his career in retail. Initially he worked in the finance department as a controller and, as his responsibilities progressed, he worked in purchasing and then in outlet and shopping centre management. He has worked for PAM Group, Promodes, Auchan, PPR and the Rinascente Group and has spent considerable time in Spain and France thereby acquiring important international and multicultural experience and a solid track record in mergers & acquisitions and change management. He is on the Advisory Board and Investment Committee of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice. In February 2017, following ten years at the head of Rinascente, Alberto Baldan decided to resign as CEO of the company in order to head up the strategic development of Grandi Stazioni Retail. Alberto Baldan played a decisive role in the repositioning of Rinascente, the iconic Italian department store. He joined the company in 2007 as General Director and became CEO when Rinascente was acquired by the Thai group Central. Whilst he was in post the company reacquired the profile and reputation that it merited. Sales doubled and profit tripled and in 2016, the La Rinascente flagship store in Milan won the nomination as BEST DEPARTMENT STORE IN THE WORLD. While at Rinascente Mr. Baldan added property development to his long list of skills as he headed the process for the imminent opening of the new flagship store in Rome occupying more than 20,000 square meters.
