The U.S. Treasury extended a licence for Serica Energy to operate the Rhum field in the North Sea which is 50% owned by Iran's national oil company, energy producer Serica said on Thursday.

The United States has granted BP <BP.L> and Serica Energy <SQZ.L> a new licence to run a North Sea gas field partly owned by Iran in a rare exemption by U.S. President Donald Trump's administration as it prepares to renew sanctions on Tehran next month.
BP and Serica Energy received a conditional licence from U.S. authorities to continue operating a North Sea gas field partly owned by Iran's national oil company, Serica said in a statement.
