In Egypt, rows of dead bodies and a morning attack that promised to add to the death toll. It's the worst nationwide bloodshed in Egypt in decades....and it prompted this statement from U.S. President Barack Obama SOUNDBITE: U.S. President Barack Obama saying: "The United States strongly condemns the steps that have been taken by Egypt's interim government and security forces." Obama then went a step further -- canceling a drill that dates back to 1981. SOUNDBITE: U.S. President Barack Obama saying: "Our traditional cooperation cannot continue as usual when civilians are being killed in the streets and rights are being rolled back. As a result, this morning we notified the Egyptian government that we are canceling our biannual joint military exercise, which was scheduled for next month." While he condemned the interim government's bloody crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood's supporters, he stopped short of endorsing either side. SOUNDBITE: U.S. President Barack Obama saying: "We've been blamed by supporters of Mursi. We've been blamed by the other side as if we are supporters of Mursi. That kind of approach will do nothing to help Egyptians achieve the future that they deserve." On Thursday, the death toll soared to well over 500 and Egypt's freshly mandated state of emergency did little but uncork fury in Giza, and Alexandria, and in the capital where the all too real consequences of unrest were impossible to ignore
