ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: North Korea's state-run television KRT on Thursday broadcast video footage of Kim Jong Un meeting the county's military officers, amid high tensions on the Korean peninsula. Kim was filmed having an outdoors meeting with commanding officers of the combined units of the Korea People's Army (KPA) and delivering a speech on Tuesday (April 1). Kim had said the current situation on the peninsula is "grave" and that his military will "crush the hostile U.S. policy" against Pyongyang, the North's official news agency KCNA reported. KCNA also said military officers pledged to guard its leader at the meeting which took place at Mount Paektu, an inactive volcano on the border with China, described in national folklore as his father's birthplace. The meeting was held days after Pyongyang threatened to conduct what it called "a new form of nuclear test". A drone South Korea found last week crashed near the border with the North apparently had flown over the presidential palace in Seoul, but would not have been able to carry a bomb, South Korea's defense ministry said on Thursday. The drone was the first of two unmanned aircraft found in a span of a week, with the second found soon after a three-hour artillery barrage between the neighbors in waters near a disputed maritime border. South Korea's military has been criticized for apparently failing to spot or stop the unidentified aircraft that entered its airspace and flew over its capital.
