The Ford F-150 pickup befit its American icon image. It again topped the Toyota Camry in Cars.com's list of the most "American-made" cars. Cars.com defines "American-made" as vehicles with at least 75 percent domestic content. Factors for ranking include where the vehicle is built and volume of U.S. sales. Cars.com editor-in-chief Patrick Olsen says the F-150's strong sales put it on top. SOUNDBITE: PATRICK OLSEN, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, CARS.COM (ENGLISH) SAYING: "The F-series line is the most popular vehicle in this country for decades. As we've seen energy and housing come back, there's definitely been strong demand for pickup trucks." Only 10 vehicles qualified for the list this year, a steep decline from 14 last year and 30 in 2011. SOUNDBITE: PATRICK OLSEN, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, CARS.COM (ENGLISH) SAYING: "As automakers become more global, we'll see domestic parts content continue to slide." And of the ten, seven were Japanese brands - namely Toyota and Honda. SOUNDBITE: PATRICK OLSEN, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, CARS.COM (ENGLISH) SAYING: "You have to watch in particular what Honda is doing. They're building more cars in the U.S. than they do in Japan. They're trying to build cars where they sell cars. That means more plants and more parts from local suppliers because you want to make sure that you've got that supply chain where you build the cars." Japanese nameplates more American than American brands - a sea change from the trade friction days when lawmakers criticized Japanese cars for not using more parts made in America.
