ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Athens police detained at least 98 protesters in the Greek capital on Saturday (December 6) where a peaceful march to mark the sixth anniversary of the police killing of 15-year-old teenager, Alexandros Grigoropoulos, which led to weeks of riots in 2008, erupted into clashes. Protesters and police, including self proclaimed anarchists, battled it out on the street in central Athens. Demonstrators wielded sticks and threw stones and molotov cocktails towards riot police, who responded with volleys of tear gas. Rioters smashed shop fronts and bank windows, and some set rubbish bins on fire. At least 6,000 protesters had taken part in the march, which also supported a 21-year-old jailed anarchist - a friend of Grigoropoulos - who has been on a hunger strike for 25 days demanding he be allowed to attend university classes. The protests came as austerity measures have peaked anger in the country, adding to the already tense climate as families deal with unemployment and poverty. Some 8,000 police officers had been stationed around the capital for the possibility of violence.
