A candlelight vigil in the Jordanian town of Karak, for the young airforce pilot held hostage by Islamic State. Family and friends of the Muath al-Kasaesbeh fear his fate, now that video has appeared purporting that another hostage held by the militants, Japanese journalist Kenji Goto, was beheaded. In the capitol, Amman, a spokesman for the pilot's supporters calls al-Kasaesbeh a son of every Jordanian and every Muslim. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SPOKESPERSON FOR NATIONAL COMMITTEE TO SUPPORT CAPTURED JORDANIAN PILOT MUATH AL-KASAESBEH, SAED AL-DALAEEN, SAYING: "We plead to God and ask his brothers in the Islamic State to secure the life of the pilot Muath al-Kasaesbeh. Once again, we ask you, in the name of God, to safeguard his life." Goto and al-Kasaesbeh has become bargaining chips for the militants, who offered their release in exchange for a female would-be suicide bomber held in Jordan's death row. But sustained international efforts to secure their release had failed. Still, another spokesman for the pilot's national support committee says they're hopeful al-Kasaesbeh won't meet the same fate as Goto. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) PRESIDENT OF MUATH SUPPORT COMMITTEE IN KARAK, HUSSAM AL-KASAESBEH: "This requires a huge effort on the part of our government, a race against time, to try to save Muath using all possible means, so he can return safely, with God's will." A race against time for the family and possibly for the government too. Al-Kasaesbeh is from an important tribe that forms the backbone of support for the Hashemite monarchy and protests over his release have erupted in his hometown Karak.
