London Fashion week gets underway in the British capital, showcasing the glamorous wares of an industry which contributes £26 billion to the economy each year. Grace Pascoe reports.

A fashion show - with a difference. Naomi Campbell strutted her stuff at Somerset House in aid of her Fashion Against Ebola campaign. A host of famous faces joined her including the Duchess of York and designer Vivienne Westwood - all raising money for a new ebola hospital in Sierra Leone. London Fashion Week is now officially underway. British brands such as Burberry, House of Holland and Topshop will be showcasing the latest trends and cutting edge fashions. And providing a welcome sales boost. CEO of the British Fashion Council, Caroline Rush. (SOUNDBITE) (English) CEO OF THE BRITISH FASHION COUNCIL, CAROLINE RUSH, SAYING: "Well the British fashion industry contributes 26 billion each year to the British economy, employs 800,000 people and events like London Fashion week are not only a draw for the whole fashion industry to the capital, but they drive sales in the retail." It also allows London to shine on the world stage. (SOUNDBITE) (English) CEO OF THE BRITISH FASHION COUNCIL, CAROLINE RUSH, SAYING: "And they're also incredibly important for global positioning for the UK and London particularly as being a great fashion nation and capital." The event will be staged in London over five days. And around 100 hundred million pounds worth of orders are expected to be placed.
