In a room full of refugees, many with children, the United Nations agency for Palestine refugees is promising to do everything it can to help. These refugees fled the Yarmouk camp outside Damascus, where recent video shows a grim reality. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says that Islamic State now controls around 90 percent of the camp, prompting an increase in government air strikes. The UN's Pierre Krahenbuhl says they're horrified by the situation. (SOUNDBITE) (English) PIERRE KRAHENBUHL, UNRWA COMMISSIONER GENERAL, SAYING: "Today we remain very worried for the refugees and the civilians who are inside Yarmouk." About 18,000 people remain in Yarmouk. Krahenbuhl says they've called on the armed groups to respect civilians and allow them to leave safely. (SOUNDBITE) (English) PIERRE KRAHENBUHL, UNRWA COMMISSIONER GENERAL, SAYING: "We are very determined to provide assistance to those who have decided temporarily to leave the camp itself and to find shelter elsewhere." Many inside the camp have already suffered chronic food shortages and disease as the war rages on in its fifth year.
