Rebels clash with Syrian army in Aleppo and Damascus

The Syrian army says it has repelled a militant attack on government positions in the northern city of Aleppo. Diane Hodges reports.

Gunfire rings through the northern Syrian city of Aleppo for another day. Islamic rebels began a major offensive to gain full control of the city last week, according to rebel websites and monitoring groups. Syrian government forces say they continue to repel rebel attacks on their positions. The fall of Syrian's main commercial hub would be a major blow for President Bashar al-Assad. Meanwhile, government forces say they've gained ground against rebels near Damascus. The city of Zabadani, outside Damascus, has been held by rebel forces for the past three years. After a series of aerial and ground attacks, government troops say they entered the city. Recapturing the city would give the troops control of a major supply route from Lebanon into Damascus.
