Investigators said Tuesday a faulty rudder system and the crewmembers' attempt to fix it contributed to the downing of an AirAsia plane in 2014. At a news conference in Jakarta, investigators said the system malfunctioned four times during the flight. (SOUNDBITE) (Bahasa Indonesia) INVESTIGATOR OF INDONESIA'S NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY COMMITTEE, NURCAHYO UTOMO, SAYING: "Subsequent flight crew actions resulted in an inability to control the aircraft, causing the aircraft to depart from the normal flight envelope and enter a prolonged stall condition that was beyond the ability of the flight crew to recover." Investigators said the system had malfunctioned 23 times the previous year. Faulty maintenance was also cited as a contributing factor. All 162 people onboard the flight were killed when it crashed on December 28th, 2014. The Airbus A320 aircraft went down halfway into its two-hour flight from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore.
