ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) On a visit to a migrant reception centre in Athens, award-winning British actress Vanessa Redgrave said on world governments must do more to help Greece combat the refugee crisis. Redgrave added Greece must not be left to cope with the refugee influx as she toured the Eleonas migrant reception facility. The 78-year-old actress and activisit urged other governments to step in and help as ''the Greeks can't solve all the problems in the world and be left to do it on their own'' in a conference held at the facility. Redgrave acknowledged that Greece could not solve the problem alone, but had taught people one important lesson, and that was the ''lesson of humanity''. Last year, more than one million refugees and migrants sought sanctuary in Europe. The multiple award-winning actress, whose trophies include an Oscar, a Tony, an Emmy, and a Golden Globe, is known for her political activism, from running for the British parliament on a Trotskyite ticket in the 1960s to speaking out against the "war on terror" and in favor of the creation of a Palestinian state. Redgrave was originally scheduled to come to Athens for an artistic collaboration with Greek actress Mimi Denisi and American playwright Martin Sherman, but said she had a duty to draw attention to the plight of migrants. A record number of people fled their homes in 2015, with more than 60 million people uprooted by wars, conflict and persecution in countries ranging from Syria to South Sudan and Afghanistan, according to the United Nations.
