Amazon is leading the charge. The online retailer set to release a higher-end Kindle and it will offer a rechargeable protective case, according to the Wall Street Journal. The removable case would extend the battery life of the devices, and allow it to be thinner. The online retailer is also working on a solar-charged case. The company's CEO, Jeff Bezos tweeted on Monday that the latest version of the reading device is ready, and that details could be expected next week. The newest Kindle will be Amazon's eighth-generation e-book reader. The first Kindle's came out in 2007 with a retail price of $400. The price of the newest one hasn't been disclosed though Amazon is trying to reach a broad market with its e-reader line having launched a $50 device last year. Amazon declined to comment.
