Black man shot by Minnesota police in traffic stop

A police officer in Minnesota fatally shot a black man during a traffic stop, the aftermath of which was posted on social media. Julie Noce reports.

A police officer shot and killed a black man during a traffic stop outside Minneapolis on Wednesday evening. Video of the incident was posted on social media by another passenger in the car- a woman who claimed to be the man's girlfriend. Police held a news conference after the incident. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SERGEANT JON MANGSETH OF ST. ANTHONY POLICE DEPARTMENT SAYING: St. Anthony police officer effected a traffic stop on Larpenteur Avenue and Fry Street in the city of Falcon Heights, Minnesota. During the stop, shots were fired, one adult male was taken to the hospital. We have been informed that this individual is deceased. The video shows a man in the driver's seat covered in blood and a police officer pointing a gun in the window. The woman in the video said her boyfriend was pulled over for a broken tail light. She said her boyfriend explained to the officer that he had a gun in the car- which he was licensed to carry - and that he was going to reach for his identification. The woman said then the officer shot him in the arm. The incident comes hours after the Department of Justice said it had opened an investigation into Tuesday fatal shooting of a black man by white police officers in Baton Rouge.
