The nomination of Virginia Senator Tim Kaine as Hillary Clinton's running mate appears to have gone down well at the Democratic National Convention. Among the biggest fans of Kaine's nomination as the party's vice-presidential hopeful is Virginia's state governor. (SOUNDBITE)(English) VIRGINIA GOVERNOR TERRY MCAULIFFE SAYING: "We're very proud in Virginia. It's the first nominee in a hundred years from Virginia." Other Virginia delegates at the convention were equally happy with the nomination. (SOUNDBITE)(English) VIRGINIA DELEGATE AYMAN ELDARWISH SAYING: "I think he will serve the issues of Arab-Americans and the issues that inflame the Middle East, he knows exactly what's happening from his experience and his own interest." (SOUNDBITE)(English) VIRGINIA DELEGATE MICHAEL FUTRELL SAYING: "I appreciated the way he balances both his religion and politics and figures out how to make them both work." Outgoing President Barack Obama's speech to the convention revved up the Democratic crowd with an optimistic picture of America's future. (SOUNDBITE)(English) SOUTH CAROLINA DELEGATE JEANETTE ATCHLEY SAYING: "Seeing the true emotion of a man who cares so much about us is so moving." (SOUNDBITE)(English) MARGIE BRIGHT MATTHEWS, SOUTH CAROLINA STATE SENATOR, SAYING: "I think he energised us to a point where we know that as long as we turn out the vote there are Americans out there who have hope and belief in this country." (SOUNDBITE)(English) KEITH MARTIN, FLORIDA DELEGATE, SAYING: "Obama brought the electric, he brought the fire, I mean, he's just a very passionate person." Obama and Clinton were rivals in the 2008 election which saw Obama become America's first black president. Now he's giving his whole-hearted support to Clinton's bid to bring another first for the U.S. - a female president.
