ROUGH CUT - NATURAL (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Chilean police fired water cannons at public sector workers protesting on Tuesday (November 15) during another strike over wages, which has left garbage uncollected and accumulating in the streets. The protest follows a similar one staged last Friday (November 11). Water cannons were fired in an attempt to disperse public sector workers blocking Santiago's main thoroughfare in a protest over the lawmakers' decision to reject a 3.2 percent rise in public salaries. Local media reported the public sector workers left from Plaza Italia and advanced toward the Plaza Los Heroes down the Alameda causeway. However, they occupied another road, blocking traffic. It is then when police intervened with water cannons. Protesters and organizers have said strikes will continue until a solution is found. Union leaders say the solution is in the hands of the authorities, as they have already lowered their request from a six percent to a 4 percent increase. However, the government has not wanted to move from 3.2 percent, according to local media reports. Both parties met at the weekend but failed to reach an agreement.
