The half-price, generic version of the EpiPen will hit pharmacies next week. Drugmaker Mylan will sell its two-pack of the life-saving allergy drug for $300 - a fifty percent discount on the name brand version. Under pressure from lawmakers for hiking the drug's price 600 percent in six years, Mylan first said it would offer a cheaper, generic EpiPen last summer. Caroline Humer covers the story for Reuters. (SOUNDBITE) CAROLINE HUMER, CORRESPONDENT, REUTERS NEWS (ENGLISH) SAYING: "They promised they would make the price cut, they're still under pressure, just last week we heard again from some different members of Congress, Democratic members, that they were going to continue their push into EpiPen pricing, and pushing Mylan to disclose why it didn't charge the government less for this drug. They say, you know, they overcharged the government, and they're working on a settlement about that. This is costing Mylan a lot of money. Going into $300 might be costing them some money, and they're laying off some of their workers. News of the generic EpiPen's availability comes just one day after twenty U.S. states filed a lawsuit against generic drugmakers for price fixing. Those named in the suit include Mylan, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and four others.
