The doors open, the rush is on. It's the first public day of the Geneva car show. There's time though, to stop and stare. Though this is a showcase for others too .... Volvo - one of its biggest sellers reborn under new Chinese owners .... Opel - on the cusp of a new partnership to form a European car giant ... BMW - going for family favourites with the relaunch of a mid-market classic .... And the future - a vision of cleaner, friendlier motoring for the next generation. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SENIOR EDITOR ON CARFECTION AND ROADSHOW, ALEX GOY, SAYING: "Change is happening, it's pretty easy to see it really, when you look around me ... Where previously the concepts would have been, 'Oh, it's a hybrid,' or 'Oh, it's got a massive engine,' or 'It's this turbo tech'. Now people are looking more towards electricity." Billions of dollars are going into new technology. But the big beasts of the supercar world can still wow a crowd. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SENIOR EDITOR ON CARFECTION AND ROADSHOW, ALEX GOY, SAYING: "I think there will always be a space for, you know, stuff with big engines and big power and that make noise because there will always be idiots like me out there who really like that kind of stuff. But much like horses and sailing boats, you know, they will become more of a luxury, a luxury item for people that can afford them and want to enjoy them." Five-litre Lamborghini - or battery-powered bubble? This an industry at a crossroads - if for many there appears to be only one way to go.
