Panera Bread will add more than 10,000 new delivery jobs by the end of the year and expand the service to as much as forty percent of its restaurants. Most of the jobs will go to drivers, who use their own cars. Panera is also adding a new order tracking system from Bringg. It sends users a picture of their driver and delivery status updates. With the expansion, Panera is trying to up its game in to win customers. And there is a lot at stake. The company's representative told Reuters delivery adds about $5,000 to weekly sales at each cafe, a boost of around ten percent. Plus, that's a slice of the market that others want as well. Panera's competitors such as McDonald's, Jack in the Box, and Chang's China Bistro also started delivering. But they depend on partners, like UberEats, Seamless, and GrubHub. Panera is running the business in house.
