ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION). The first freight train to run from Britain to China arrived in the city of Yiwu, eastern China on Saturday (April 29) completing its 12,000 km (7,456 mile) journey. The train left London on April 10 and passed through seven countries -- France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan -- before arriving in Yiwu. The first direct freight train from China arrived in Britain in January. The train was greeted by enthusiastic traders and shipping company officials when it came to a halt at the Yiwu West station. Both foreign and local traders say the train was more convenient for shipping their stock and are confident it would help increase orders.
