Former Bond Roger Moore dead at 89

Actor Roger Moore, best known for playing James Bond, has died aged 89, his family has announced. Mia Womersley reports.

He won international fame playing the world's most famous secret agent. British actor Roger Moore has died in Switzerland after a short battle with cancer, aged 89. His family announcing the news on Twitter. Moore played the role of the British spy for 12 years from 1973 - making Moore a millionaire and a heartthrob the world over. He starred in seven of the Bond films in total, including "The Spy Who Loved Me", "For Your Eyes Only", "Octopussy" and "A View to a Kill". The son of a London policeman, Moore once said the upper-crust image he portrayed both on and off the screen was a carefully nurtured cover for his shyness. He also said he was terrified of playing the sex scenes which were a key part of the movies. Steeling himself before facing the cameras with a mixture of valium and beer. But his children say that the role he was most proud of was that of Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Children's Fund. UNICEF describing the actor as "a passionate and highly persuasive advocate for children." Moore is survived by his fourth wife, Scandinavian socialite Kristina "Kiki" Tholstrup... And by his three children from an earlier marriage, Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian.
