Wednesday, May 31, 2017 - 01:41

It was a small wave, but big enough to send a message. French European Affairs minister Marielle de Sarnez seemingly ignoring allegations of ethical misconduct, as she arrived for the weekly cabinet meeting. Although later admitting, she's rattled enough to sue those behind the mud-slinging. (SOUNDBITE) (French) EUROPEAN AFFAIRS MINISTER, MARIELLE DE SARNEZ, SAYING: "All this is false. They're all lies. That's why I've filed a complaint for libel, because I fundamentally cannot accept the National Front's dishonour of the European Parliament to cover up for their own misdeeds, because that's exactly what this is about." De Sarnez is accused of using an aide, paid for by the European Parliament, to undertake political activities in France She's just the latest member of President Macron's government to be tarnished by accusations Richard Ferrand, the new housing minister, has spent the last week fighting charges of improper financial dealings An opinion poll published on Wednesday shows most voters want the two ministers to resign (SOUNDBITE) (English) SENIOR MARKET ANALYST, LONDON CAPITAL GROUP, JASPER LAWLER, SAYING: "I think probably with that injection of a lot of new people brings with it a bit of uncertainty, a bit a risk that maybe some of them are too heavily involved in certain areas of industry, maybe areas of conflict of interest to potential, so that's going to be a rocky initial path I think for people to get familiar with these new faces. But I think it's something that he could probably overcome." None the less, it's bad timing for Macron who pledged to curb corruption and who's hoping to consolidate power after parliamentary elections in two weeks time.
