Fiat Chrysler is recalling close to 300,000 minivans. The culprit: a wiring problem that can result in the driver side air bag deploying without warning. The recall includes Dodge Grand Caravan models from 2011 and 2012 in the United States and Canada. Fiat Chrysler says the faulty airbags have caused 13 minor injuries so far. Cox Automotive's Karl Brauer: (SOUNDBITE) KARL BRAUER, SENIOR DIRECTOR OF CONTENT AND EXECUTIVE PUBLISHER, COX AUTOMOTIVE (ENGLISH) SAYING: "Chrysler has really been a minivan leader in the market for decades. They invented this segment. So, it's important for them to adress this problem quickly and ensure that nobody else is injured." The recall will begin in late July. Dealers will replace the wiring if needed and add protective covering. The company said the recall isn't linked to the recalls for Takata's airbag inflators.
