Johnson Rivera, 29, already had a job as a waiter at a New York restaurant Spring Natural Kitchen when he realized he needed extra cash. In 2015, he started working at the Telegraphe Cafe in the citi's hip neighborhood Chelsea. (SOUNDBITE) JONATHAN RIVERA, NEW YORK RESIDENT WITH TWO JOBS, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "The reason I have two jobs is because I really do need to make ends meet. I have bills to pay. I have expenses. I have my pet. So, it's, you know, it's important. It's something that I'm used to, something that I see is very common. I have many friends who have the same thing. They have two jobs. So, it's a normal thing for me." According to a recent research from Bankrate, Rivera is one of more than 44 million Americans with a side hustle. Most of them are younger millennials. They work extra at least monthly, making about $500 from a second jobs. Sarah Berger, The Cashlorette at Bankrate, says they spend the money on living expenses, not as disposable income. (SOUNDBITE) SARAH BERGER, THE CASHLORETTE AT BANKRATE, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "They are the generation known for drowning in debt, so, I think, that for a lot of younger millennials a second job is likely necessary to pay down that debt faster." And it looks like they have plenty of options in today's economy. In her recent testimony on Capitol Hill, Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen said job creation is strong.
