Boxing's former heavyweight world champion Wladimir Klitschko is hanging up his gloves. The 41 year old Ukrainian, AKA "Dr. Steelhammer," held the sport's highest title multiple times over his 27-year career. Last April Klitschko came agonizingly close to being only the second man ever to earn the title past the age of 40, next to George Foreman. Trying to take the belt from Britain's Anthony Joshua, a man 14 years his junior. Gracious in defeat, it was one of only five losses he's ever had - he's won over 60. A legend in his home country, Ukraine's prime minister even congratulating his retirement on social media. Klitschko, who spends time outside the ring as a businessman and philanthropist, announced his departure through his website. (SOUNDBITE) (English) WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO, FORMER HEAVYWEIGHT BOXING CHAMPION, SAYING: "Because of this choice I've traveled the world, learned new languages, created businesses, built intellectual properties, helped people in need, became scientist, entrepreneur, motivator, hotelier, investor, and much else. (...) At some point in our lives we need to, or just want to switch our careers and get ourselves ready for the next chapter and chart a new course toward fresh challenges." In the ring he had a reputation as a cautious and mechanical fighter, sometimes to the point of criticism. Klitschko's older brother, Vitali, is another former heavyweight champ and the current mayor of Kiev. The brothers always refused to fight each other.
