ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. Participants in Spain's famous "La Tomatina," tomato fight on Wednesday (August 30) were subject to strict security controls as they tried to take positions in the street where thousands of revellers hurl tonnes of tomatoes at each other every year. As part of the security operation police checked bags and backpacks of people entering the small town of Bunol just a few kilometres away from Valencia. Spanish Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido said after the Barcelona attacks that security would be increased within the 4 risk level, especially in areas where large crowds are expected. Some participants said they were confident that security forces were taking measures to ensure the success of one of Spain's most famous fiestas. At 11.00 am (9.00 GMT) a fire cracker marks the start of "La Tomatina" and for an hour six trucks loaded with about 160 tonnes of tomatoes drive through Bunol' s central street providing ammunition for revellers to enjoy.
