ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) U.S. Representative Steve Scalise made a triumphant return to Congress on Thursday, more than three months after being shot and wounded by a gunman who opened fire on him and other Republican lawmakers during a baseball practice. Scalise, from Louisiana, was shot in the hip. "I am definitely a living example that miracles really do happen," Scalise said on the House floor on Thursday. "Both Republican and Democrat reached out in ways that I can't express the gratitude on how much it means to me.... it really does show the warm side of Congress that very few people get to see." Gunman James Hodgkinson, 66, had a history of posting angry messages against Republican President Donald Trump. He died after being wounded by police at the Alexandria, Virginia, ballpark.
