Supermodel Adriana Lima will be on the runway, but not some other star names. Victoria's Secret holds its glitzy fashion show in China for the first time Monday. Absent among those who had been expected to attend: model Gigi Hadid, whose video of her squinting her eyes while holding a Buddha status angered Chinese, and pop singer Katy Perry, who showed support for Taiwan two years ago. China has banned performers in the past over perceived bad behavior or broaching sensitive topics like Taiwan or Tibet. Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said he didn't know the details surrounding the Victoria's Secret show. SOUNDBITE: LU KANG, SPOKESMAN, FOREIGN MINISTRY, CHINA, (ENGLISH OVER MANDARIN) SAYING: "Like all other countries, China as a sovereign state has the right to decide for itself in accordance with its laws and policies whether or not to issue papers to foreign citizens." Victoria's Secret didn't respond to requests for comment. Pre-show theatrics aside, the U.S. retailer seeks growth in a women's lingerie market that's expected to expand to $33 billion in three years.
