ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: A large pink diamond was sold for $32 million (USD), making it the most expensive piece of jewelry sold at a Christie's auction in Hong Kong, but fell short of breaking the world record for price per carat for pink diamond on November 28. The 14.93 carat oval-shaped diamond, known as the "Pink Promise", was sold at a final price of $249,850,000 (HKD), or $32,022,432 (USD) to an anonymous international private collector. It was the leading item for the auction house's jewels autumn sale. Rahul Kadakia, Christie's International Head of Jewelery, said it's rare for a pink diamond of this size and shape to go on sale. In 2009, Christie's sold 'The Vivid Pink', a cushion-shaped 5 carat pink diamond at the current world record price of $2,155,332 (USD) per carat for any pink diamond. The pink gemstone forms the centerpiece of a diamond-studded ring and was previously owned by Stephen Silver, a U.S. gemologist and jeweler.
