For thousands of years, most of the residents in what is now Lin County, Shanxi province, have lived in subterranean homes dug into the sides of mountains. Despite decades of breakneck growth millions of people across northern China still live in these traditional dwellings that locals refer to as ''caves''. It could all be about to change as Beijing pushes a nation-wide poverty eradication scheme.
