BEIJING Americans Venus and Serena Williams won
the battle of the sisters on Saturday, beating Alona and
Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine to reach their second Olympic
The Williams, who together claimed gold medals in Sydney
eight years ago, went through 6-4 4-6 6-1 against the
Australian Open champions.
"There's no temptation to celebrate yet," Serena told
reporters. "We always want to go for the highest peak.
"I have a lot of space for (a gold medal). Hopefully I can
get it. Hopefully we'll be able to and I'll be able to show
people a new one."
After two tight sets the Bondarenko challenge fizzled out
and they were blown away in the decider. They can still win a
first Olympic tennis medal for their country in Sunday's bronze
The Williams will discover their opponents for Sunday's
final later when Chinese pair Zheng Zie and Yan Zi take on
French Open champions Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia
Ruano Pascual of Spain.
