ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION Hundreds of pro-democracy protesters marched through central Hong Kong Sunday (September 14) dressed in black and carrying black banners in a demonstration against Beijing's framework for democracy for the territory. It took scores of them to carry a long banner reading, "The government has lost its trust." Tensions have been rising since China said last month that it would strictly limit the candidates for Chief Executive in the next election to two or three vetted by a committee seen as loyal to Beijing. Pro-democracy activists have held an unofficial referendum, mass marches and rallies and an overnight sit-in that lead to hundreds of arrests. Co-organiser of the group 'Occupy Central with Love and Peace', Benny Tai, said he had not given up hope. (SOUNDBITE) (English) CO-ORGANISER OF PROTEST GROUP 'OCCUPY CENTRAL WITH LOVE AND PEACE', BENNY TAI, SAYING: "Well it still very much depends on the scale of the participation in the coming Occupy Central. I still believe that if we have a huge number of people joining the occupation, demonstrating their determination to have democracy, I think a responsible government cannot ignore that." A student boycott of classes is expected later this month, followed by another sit-in in the city's central business district. On Sunday, Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying published an open letter to residents of the special administrative region of China, urging them to be "pragmatic" and to form an "accurate and complete understanding of the constitutional and political context" of the situation.
