Scuffles in the occupied West Bank village of Turmusiya, on Wednesday. Before they're over, this Palestinian politician will be dead. He's Ziad Abu Ein, a government minister and activist against Israeli settlements. He and some 100 protesters, Palestinians and foreigners, came here to plant trees near an Israeli settlement , when they were stopped by about 15 Israeli troops at an improvised checkpoint. Abu Ein, in his fifties, appeared winded from the tussles and the teargas. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) ZIAD ABU EIN, PALESTINIAN MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO, SAYING: "We came to our Palestinian land to plant olive trees and they are attacking us from the first moment. Nobody threw a stone and nobody attacked back and this is the terrorist occupation army practicing suppression and terrorism against the Palestinian people." The video stops ... but a Reuters photographer snaps the moment after the Minister is hit by a soldier in the neck and falls. He's rushed to a hospital by ambulance but dies en route. Abu Ein's death comes amid rising ensions between Palestinians and Israel. Palestinians in Ramallah have closed their shops in protest at his death and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced three days of mourning.
