ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Presidential candidate New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said that the "war on drugs is a failure," as he said the real enemy is addiction, which should be treated as a disease. "The war on drugs is a failure, and we need to take a new approach," Christie said at a campaign event in Camden, New Jersey. "So, we need a fundamentally different strategy - we need to focus on fighting the real enemy, the real enemy is addition, it's addiction, and addiction is something that we should treat as the disease that it is," he said. "I happen to be pro-life, and I happen to believe in the sanctity of human life, but I believe if you are really going to be pro-life that you gotta be pro life for more than just the time in the womb, an unborn child is a life, yes, but so is the life if a 16-year-old teenager who is drug addicted and lying on the floor of some county lock up. If you are going to be pro-lief in the womb you had better be pro life to save that life also," he said. "I think I have a better solution," he said. "For first time offenders who committed non-violent crimes, in cases where the offender doesn't pose a threat to anyone we should work to find treatment , non custodial sentencing options, we have got top show more common sense in the crimes we choose to focus on," he said.
