As locals sit down to eat in West Des Moines, Iowans are getting ready to caucus. For some residents it's a welcome time in the spotlight. (SOUNDBITE) (English) BONNI, SAYING: "I do feel it's important to caucus. It just shows the world and America that Iowa does deserve to be first in the nation because we're very engaged and very involved with all politicians that show up here. And we want to hear what they have to say and kind of help vet them out and weed out who we think is important and who we think is not important Iowa is the first state in the nation to weigh in on the presidential race -- a role locals take very seriously. (SOUNDBITE) (English) RUSS, SAYING: "This is what our soldiers fight for. They fight for freedom to give us the right to vote. I'm even giving up my girls' basketball game to go to caucus. Anyway, that's why. It's important." And it's a lesson hammered homes to Iowans almost as a part of their birth right. (SOUNDBITE) (English) BRYLIE, SAYING: "And my parents have always instilled in me just the want or need to exercise my own freedom in voting. So I'm excited to do that." The caucus begin at 7 PM local time -- just when the results come in is not so clear.
